Sean & Davids Long Drive.
Sean Condon: ”We made a left ar Erldunda. The world’s biggest rock is just 244 Ks away – but a short walk, considering how far we’ve already come today. (And we have travelled a really long way – almost an entire week of constant driving. The great big irony is that I’m just not all that interested in seeing Uluru anyway. I’m sure it’s impressive and spectacular and everything, but the fact remains it is just a big rock. But then again, if I think about what I’d otherwise be doing on a Tuesday afternoon, geological freaks become suddenly much more appealing.)”
Sean Condon: “Friday, Alice Springs.
There is no driving today. What a relief. My ass thanks me. Driving makes you crazy after a while – and as I’ve said, I don’t even drive. Even just thinking about what lies ahead upsets me – 500 Ks from here to Tennant Creek, a further 1000 Ks up to Darwin, turn around and head back to Tennant Creek, then all the way across to Townsville in Queensland, which is a whole other few thousand Ks again. I had mistakenly thought all the horror driving was behind us. What a chump. In the Outback (about seven-eights of the entire country) that sort of driving is never behind you.
Australia is too big.”
Long Drive = great book
